International Piano Competition
A Grand Opening for the International Debut!
Yanzi Cup International Piano Competition has grown into one of the most influential events for young pianists in China and around the world since its launch in 2015. This summer, it will be held in Canada for the first time!
In 2025, Edmonton will serve as the very 1st international division, officially and proudly joining this prestigious musical event.
The total prize pool for the Edmonton division exceeds $10,000 CAD. Outstanding performers will have the opportunity to perform on international stages, receive mentorship from acclaimed artists, and even compete in the global finals in Shanghai!

David Fung
David Fung
Steinway Artist · Professor of Piano at Manhattan School of Music and University of British Columbia
Praised by The Washington Post for his “ravishing and simply gorgeous” playing, pianist David Fung is celebrated for his refined artistry and poetic expressiveness. A laureate of the Queen Elisabeth and Rubinstein International Competitions, he has performed as soloist with top orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, LA Philharmonic, and Israel Philharmonic, and appeared at venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Louvre.
Professor Fang Yi
Director of the Piano Department’s First Teaching and Research Office and a PhD and Master’s Supervisor at Harbin Conservatory of Music. He holds degrees from the Central Conservatory of Music (China) and Italy’s Tito Schipa Conservatory. A frequent collaborator with symphony orchestras, he is deeply committed to piano education and has mentored students who have gone on to top music schools around the world.

Professor Bi Xuechun
Associate Professor at Capital Normal University, graduated from Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing, China) for Bachlor’s Degree and Master’s Degrees from Germany and the Netherlands.
Winner of the Paris International Piano Competition, she has guided many students to success at top international competitions and contributes regularly to national piano education projects.
Professor Bi Xuechun
Sarah Ho
Canadian pianist Sarah Ho has performed across North America, Europe, and China as a soloist and chamber musician. She has appeared with the Edmonton Symphony, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and at venues such as the Kennedy Center and Banff Centre. A graduate of Indiana University and Yale University, she studied with Menahem Pressler and Claude Frank. Sarah is Artistic Director of the Edmonton Recital Society and teaches at MacEwan University Conservatory.
